Rose & Crown Delicious

Active...

An area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Superb walking... wild flowers... bird watching... game shooting... fishing... mountain biking... or just a gentle cycle along old fashioned country lanes.

Nearby... old market towns and castles, the world famous Bowes Museum, spectacular Raby castle, charming Eggleston Hall walled gardens. Further afield... Durham Cathedral, Beamish Open Air Museum, the Yorkshire Dales, the Durham Dales, the High Pennines, the Eden Valley... and Hadrian’s Wall country... and lots, lots more.

Walking in Teesdale

The combination of stunning scenery, breath-taking natural beauty, rare wildlife and unspoilt villages makes this a walker's paradise. There are tranquil local walks from the door of the Rose & Crown such as following the river down to Cotherstone and returning via the old Tees Valley Railway Line back to where Romaldkirk station once stood. The old rail route can be followed up to Mickleton and on to Middleton-in-Teesdale for a great day out on foot.

The nearby fells such as Cronkley and Widdybank (where a nature trail adds to the interest) provide rugged beauty and the Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve is famous for the extremely rare arctic-alpine flora, best seen in the late spring as well as birds such as the rare black grouse, golden plover and ring ouzel.

Some fantastic circular walks include Grassholme resevoir (approx. 4 miles) and the High Force/Low Force circular (approx. 5 miles) which has the added bonus of taking in England's highest waterfall.

Spa

For guests staying 3 nights or more there is the opportunity to enjoy a day at Headlam Spa, located just 15 miles down the dale at our other spot, Headlam Hall. Here you can enjoy complete relaxation in the wet area with its 15m pool, sauna, steam room and outdoor hydrotherapy pool. Relax....Revive....Rejuvinate.... our team of expert spa therapists offer a range of treatments for both men and women including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures (prior booking essential). The more active may wish to take advantage of the fully equipped gym which boasts the latest equipment from Technogym and there is also a popular cafe brasserie for a drink or bite to eat. Complimentary day passes are available Monday to Friday and are for use between 10 am and 4 pm, towels provided. See www.headlamspa.co.uk .....R&C residents are very welcome.
